To ensure that Nigeria has conducted peaceful general elections, the Nigeria Police has mopped up thousands of arms and ammunition in some parts of the country.
The recovered arms and ammunition were handed over to the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) at a ceremony held at the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), Force Headquarters on Thursday.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, supervised the handing over of the 3,980 arms of different calibers and 2,358 ammunition.
The breakdown of the recovered arms includes 265 automatic rifles; 146 pump action guns; 1,909 locally fabricated pistols; 1,500 locally made single barrel guns; 98 locally made double barrel guns; 46 General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs); 16 locally made rocket launchers; 2 locally made Anti-Aircraft (AA) guns; and 7 Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs).
Also, handed over to the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) are 2,358 assorted calibers of ammunition and 1,057 assorted cartridges.
