Ahead of the upcoming general election, the Nigeria Police Force is organising a one-day seminar on practical approaches to curbing electoral violence.

CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, force public relations officer, announced this in a press release on Sunday.

According to Adejobi, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, convened the seminar to ensure that police officers are adequately prepared to effectively police the 2023 general elections, particularly officers responsible for strategic operational deployments and active field duties across the states of the federation.

The seminar, with the theme “The role of the Nigeria Police Force in curbing election violence in Nigeria as it affects the upcoming 2023 general elections”, is scheduled at 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

Expected to be in attendance at the event include the deputy commissioners of police in charge of operations at all zonal and state commands and the operations department of the Nigerian Army.

Others include security agencies involved in election security management, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the media, youth representatives, and the diplomatic community.

Professor Sunday Ochoche of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) will serve as a keynote speaker alongside AIG Wilson Inalegwu (Rtd) and CP Lawrence Alobi (Rtd).

Meanwhile, the IGP has assured the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to provide full security coverage before, during, and after the 2023 general elections.
