The Action Alliance (AA) has collapsed its structure for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for the February 25 general election.
In a statement on Sunday, James Vernimbe, the party’s national secretary said the endorsement was made during the PDP’s mega rally in Yola, Adamawa state on Saturday.
According to Vernimbe, the endorsement was led by the party’s national chairman, Chief Barr. Kenneth Udeze and six northeast state chairmen of the party were in attendance at the rally.
“What led to the endorsement is that our presidential candidate, Hamza Al-Mustapha, is not contesting to win,” he explained.
“Since 9 June 2022 that he emerged as the presidential candidate of the party till 16 February 2023, there have been no flag-off campaigns anywhere, no poster anywhere indicating his presence in the presidential race.
“And Atiku Abubakar is the only candidate that has assured us of forming the government of national unity where other political parties will be accommodated because what we have today in Nigeria is winner takes all.”
The West African Pilot News reports that apart from the AA, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), African Democratic Congress (ADC), National Rescue Movement (NRC) and Action Peoples Party (APP) also adopted Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa for the upcoming presidential election.
The national chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, who spoke on behalf of the parties, made the declaration at the grand finale of the PDP’s presidential rally held at the Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola yesterday.
APM had on Friday adopted Atiku’s candidacy in place of the party’s candidate, Princess Ojei, the only female candidate in the 2023 presidential race.
