The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has assured the Labour Party’s (LP) legal team of the commission’s readiness to provide all documents the party has requested to challenge the outcome of the February 25 presidential polls.
Yakubu gave the assurance on Monday during a meeting with the legal team of the LP at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The 60-man legal team, led by Dr Livy Uzoukwu, was at INEC headquarters yesterday to discuss the modalities for the LP to obtain the electoral materials used for the presidential election for inspection ahead of the commencement of the court case.
Giving an update on the meeting, the commission, in a post on Twitter, said the INEC boss expressed eagerness to release the requested documents both at the national and state levels for inspection.
“INEC has nothing to hide. Documents available at the HQ will be given immediately,” Yakubu was quoted as saying in the tweet.
“We are meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners today and we will discuss how other documents at the state level could also be made available to you speedily.”
