A Special Task Force in Plateau State Code named “Operation Safe Haven” has arrested five persons in connection with a series of attacks on several villages in the Mangu Local Government Area of the State.

In a statement, the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, said a significant cache, including 47 rifles, a revolver, and numerous cartridges was seized during the arrests.

The statement added that as a proactive measure to prevent any potential resurgence of violence and guarantee the protection of lives and properties, additional security personnel have been deployed in the area.

The PPRO further said an officer attached to Sector Eight of the Special Task Force sustained gunshot wounds and is responding to treatment.

He added that the attackers overrun and vandalize a Hilux van belonging to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps.

Solomon Maren, a member of the House of Representatives from Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency said over 100 people were killed and buildings, foodstuffs, and farm inputs were razed in the two days overnight attacks.

Meanwhile, search parties have been constituted in the affected communities to look for missing persons is ongoing in the Fungzai and Kubwat villages in the Kombun District of the Mangu Local Government Area.

The National President of Mwaghavul Development Association, Joseph Gwankat, made this known to newsmen on Wednesday after a security meeting at the palace of the traditional ruler in Mangu, he explained that the search in the affected communities for missing persons was still ongoing.

“Fifty-seven (57) victims were given a mass burial on Wednesday amid tears by relatives and members of the community who gathered to witness the funeral service,” Gwankat said.

He alleged that suspected Fulani militias have attacked several communities leading to killings, burning of houses and the destruction of farmlands in the affected communities, worth millions of naira.

The Mishkcham Mwaghavul, John Putmang, the Council chairman, and district heads from the communities, appealed for security reinforcement to the communities to safeguard citizens and their valuables.

Following the incessant attacks, protesting women besieged the palace of the traditional ruler where the security meeting was being held with security chiefs, district heads, and government officials led by the deputy governor, Professor Sonni Tyoden.
