The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, says it will investigate the allegations of sexual assault against Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the suspended dean of the faculty of law at the University of Calabar, UNICAL.
The resolution of the NBA was disclosed in a statement by the association’s national publicity secretary, Akorede Lawal on Saturday.
Lawal said the decision to investigate the professional misconduct was reached at the recent monthly meeting of the NBA’s national executive committee.
The panel that will look into the allegation against Ndifon comprises the first vice-president of the NBA, Mrs. Linda Rose Bala; the assistant-general secretary of the NBA, Mr. Daniel Kip; chairperson of the NBA women’s forum, Chinyere Okorocha and the chairman of the NBA Calabar branch, Attah Ochinke.
The NBA’s decision to investigate the embattled dean is coming 48 hours after the management of the UNICAL directed him, via a statement by the university’s registrar, Gabriel Egbe, to hand over all the institution’s properties in his possession, including all official responsibilities to his second-in-command and vacate office while a panel probes the allegation against him.
