Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, elder brother of Datti Baba-Ahmed, Peter Obi’s running mate in the 2023 general election, has been appointed as the special adviser on political matters to Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

Baba-Ahmed, the immediate past spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum, was among the 18 aides approved by President Bola Tinubu to work in the office of the Vice President.

According to a statement by Olusola Abiola, the director of information in the office of the Vice President on Monday, the appointments consist of six special advisers (SAs) and 12 senior special assistants (SSAs)

The SAs are Rukaiya El-Rufai, SA on NEC and climate change; Tope Kolade Fasua, SA on economic matters; Aliyu Modibbo Umar, SA on general duties; Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, SA on political matters; Jumoke Oduwole, SA on Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) and investment and Sadiq Wanka, SA on power infrastructure.

The SSAs are Usman Mohammed, SSA on administration and office coordination; Kingsley Stanley Nkwocha, SSA on media and communications; Ishaq Ahmed Ningi, SSA on digital media and emergency management; Peju Adebajo, SSA on investment and privatisation; Mohammed Bulama, SSA on political/special duties; Kingsley Uzoma, SSA on agribusiness and productivity enhancement;

Completing the list are Gimba Kakanda, SSA on research and analytics; Temitola Adekunle-Johnson, SSA on job creation and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs); Nasir Yammama, SSA on innovation; Zainab Yunusa, SSA on National Economic Council (NEC); Mariam Temitope, SSA on regional development programmes, and Bashir Maidugu as deputy State House counsel (SSA).

Baba-Ahmed accepted the appointment which he described as an opportunity to be “useful in turning the country round.”
