The National Industrial Court in Abuja has restrained the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, from going ahead with their planned nationwide strike billed for November 14.
The labour unions announced plans to embark on a devastating industrial action next Tuesday earlier this week.
The unions said the strike was to protest the assault on the NLC national president Joe Ajaero in Imo state last week.
But Tijani Gazali, SAN, attorney for the Federal Government and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, filed an ex-parte application in court to restrain the unions from going ahead with the planned strike.
Gizali argued that the planned strike would cause untold hardship on innocent law-abiding citizens and their businesses.
He said that if the unions go ahead with the strike, there will be a breach of peace and tranquillity in the country.
Justice Benedict Kanyip, the president of the court, granted all the requests of the Federal Government to abort the looming strike.
The restraining order shall subsist until the final determination of the case at a yet-to-be-disclosed date.
