The Nigerian Army, NA, authorities have said its troops gunned down a notorious terrorist leader named Maikusa in a gun duel in Batsari LGA of Katsina State.

Maikusa, said the NA, was the second-in-command of the terrorist cell led by another notorious terrorist Modi Modi whom the police are hunting for. Modi has a N50 million bounty on his head, as earlier reported by Pilot News.

Maikusa was slain alongside three other outlaws on Monday, 4 March, NA spokesman Onyema Nwachukwu said yesterday. Other terrorists fled after they lost three men and their commander.

“After the firefight, the troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, 65 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, a locally fabricated gun and camouflage uniform,” Nwachukwu stated.

The troops destroyed the deserted camps. They also went on to raze several other terrorist camps in Wurma, Shaiskawa, Yauni, and Dogon Marke villages in Kurfi LGA, as well as Ummadau and Zakka villages in Safana LGA.

“The troops have continued to maintain an aggressive posture in the general area to clear remnants of the terrorist cell to ensure safety and security in the region,” the statement added.
