The Nigerian Police Force, Enugu State Command has arrested four male suspects major in stealing cars parked around Kenyetta Market in Uwani, Enugu.

The police operatives, serving in the Uwani Police Division, acting on several reports received of stolen cars within the area mounted surveillance which led to the arrest of the syndicate’s kingpin Mr. Anioko Chukwujekwu, aged 32, on March 3, 2024.

Anioko was arrested while attempting to steal a car from where it was parked at the market in broad daylight; numerous car keys were recovered from him.

The suspect during the preliminary investigation confessed to the crime and revealed his cohorts.

His confessional statements led to the arrest of three (3) more suspects in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, who are his conspirators, receivers, and sellers of the stolen vehicles.

While two of the suspects Ugochukwu Okoh aged 41 and Nkemdi Idah aged 65, were arrested on March 7, 2024, Mr. Nwoke Sunday aged 57 was arrested on March 9, 2024.

Exhibits recovered from the foursome include four different models of Mercedes-Benz cars, comprising two 190 E, a C-Class, and a 230 E (V-Boot).

Registration numbers and colors of 3 out of the 4 Mercedes Benz cars recovered are a 190E model ash-colored with Registration number SKA 292 AA; a blue-colored C-Class model with registration number AGL 512 EY and a black-colored 230 E (V-Boot) with registration number CHR 50 AE; a red-colored 190E model without Reg. No. was also recovered.

The official bulletin signed by DSP Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer, states that the suspects will be arraigned in court and prosecuted once investigations are concluded.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, promise Enugu residents that the Command will not rest on its oars until they rid the state of unrepentant criminals.

Uzuegbu further enjoins residents of the State to be law-abiding, security-conscious, and quickly report suspected criminals to the nearest Police Station, or call 08086671202 or 08098880102.
