The Borno State chairman of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, Ba’Lawan Ja’afar, has assured the group’s unwavering commitment to eliminating the remaining threats posed by Boko Haram and other insurgent groups in the State.
Ja’afar stated this on Thursday during a press briefing in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, which has borne the brunt of the Boko Haram insurgency for over a decade.
“Our main priority remains ensuring the total clearance of Boko Haram remnants and other insurgents in the state,” Ja’afar declared.
The CJTF is a volunteer group of local youths with a deep understanding of the state’s terrain who assist the military in various operations against the Islamic jihadists.
Ja’afar pledged the CJTF’s continued support for the Nigerian military in their fight against terrorism after the group received a cash gift of N255 million and bags of rice from the State Governor, Babagana Zulum.
Zulum said the gifts were in recognition and appreciation of the CJTF’s efforts in keeping the terrorists at bay in the state.
“I appreciate your efforts in complementing the military and other security forces to restore peace in the state. I assure you that your welfare is a top priority for me,” Zulum said.
The CJTF chairman said they had received tremendous support from Governor Zulum.
“This is not the first time that our members are benefitting from the governor’s large hearted benevolence but this time it is very special and timely in view of the economic situation and the fasting period,” he said.
“The governor specifically directed that members are to be given N30,000 each as their monthly allowance for the month of March while N50,000 and a bag of rice each is Ramadan gesture.”
He added “I want to assure Governor Zulum and the people of Borno that we will not rest on our oars until lasting peace returns to the State and the North East region.”
