The Enugu State Government has promised to award scholarships and offer employment opportunities to dependents of the murdered victims of the Nimbo attack.

The State Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah said this when he visited the community to commiserate with the victims and for fact-finding.

Describing the unprovoked attack as malicious and unacceptable, Governor Mbah promised that the state would not rest until the culprits were identified, captured, and brought to justice.

Gov. Mbah commiserates with the family of victims of the Nimbo attack.

“We do not want our people to live in fear. Therefore, we will continue to deploy everything within our powers to ensure that they are protected.”

“To my dear people of the Nimbo, I deeply empathize with you. I have noted your recommendations and requests, including the need for representation in government and the strengthening of local security resources. These will be addressed as promised,” Governor Mbah promised.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has ordered the deployment of the Command’s operational and intelligence resources to sustain the ongoing operations to hunt down the assailants suspected to be herders.

CP Uzuegbu assures the community and states that the Enugu Police Command will use everything at her disposal to bring the perpetrators to book and will not allow the reoccurrence of such incidents in the State.

On 28th April 2024, suspected Fulani herders at about 3:30 pm murdered three men and 2 years old boy at Ugwuijero Village in Nimbo community of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area.

Eye witness account states that the suspected Fulani herders invaded a ceremony in their village and opened fire on the people.

He said there is no land dispute or any issues between the community and the herders hence their surprise at the invasion and gruesome murder which has thrown the community in mourning and living in fear for their lives.

Also, John Fredrick Chidera a student of the University of Nigeria Nsukka and a native of Nimbo expressed anger and pain at the murder of his people.

Expressing delight at the State Government’s offer of employment and scholarship for the victims’ dependents, Chidera calls on the government to keep to her word.
