Protesters in Kano wearing face caps with the word “peace” inscribed on them have stormed the streets of the Kano metropolis, chasing away protesters who were looting shops and other commercial places.

The looters were seen moving valuables, including chairs, computers, and others.

The ‘Peace’ protesters, in their green face caps, chanted “Mu yance muke ba ruwan mu da Kayan Kowa,” meaning, “We need freedom from the government, we don’t want anybody’s properties.”

One of the ‘Peace’ protesters told journalists they would do their best to stop the looting and destruction of innocent people’s properties.

The earlier protesters looted and set ablaze, including the NCC office at State Road.

The NCC office, newly built, and ready for commissioning soon, was looted and set on fire.

Meanwhile, the protest became violent in Suleja, Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State, as at least three youths were shot dead by the police.

It was reported that over 15 others sustained varying degrees of bullet wounds, and are in critical condition receiving medical attention at different health facilities in the area, including Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital.

The youths who defied the early morning rain assembled at the Suleja Old Motor Park for a peaceful protest and resisted the police directives to vacate the area, insisting that their protest was peaceful and within the bounds of the law.

According to a source, the police fired teargas in an attempt to disperse the protesters, the action which angered the youths, who began throwing stones, sticks, and other objects at the police, vandalizing a police vehicle attached to the Area Commander’s office (registration number NPF 9102C).

The youths then followed the police to the Area Commander’s office and attempted to storm the station but were prevented by heavily armed officers.

The confrontation escalated, resulting in the police using live ammunition, killing three youths instantly.

“I can tell you that the number of those who sustained bullet injuries are more than 15, and we don’t know if they will survive it,” the source disclosed.

Meanwhile, the police are yet to comment on the killings
