Sir, Paul Chukwuma, the leading candidate for the Anambra governorship ticket on the platform of the APC, who has been variously described as “overly competent and ready to serve,” has frowned at the attack by gunmen in Oba, Idemili South area of Anambra State, which led to the death of a police officer.
Speaking on the development, Mr. James Eze, the spokesman of Sir Paul Chukwuma’s Campaign Council expressed worry over the situation, pointing to the consequences of exacerbating security situation of this nature across Anambra State. According to Mr. Eze, “This is another sad reminder of the existential challenges facing Ndi Anambra. We stand in unison with all men of goodwill to condemn the attack”, he said, as he condoled with the family of the victim.
The statement also appreciated the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, as well as noted the peculiar difficulty facing security agencies in Anambra State. “We wish to encourage the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, who has vowed to bring those behind the unholy act to book,” Eze said while expressing optimism that the operation by a Joint Security Force in Oba contained in a statement by the PPRO, CSP Tochi Ikenga, will bring the miscreants to justice.
Insecurity in Anambra state recently has reached an all-time high. Only a few days ago, a report by SBM Intelligence awarded Anambra the ransom payment capital of Nigeria, with payment in ransom exceeding N300 million over the month under review. As of today, it is still unclear what the governor’s plans are for restoring public safety across the state.
