The Pro-chancellor of Benue State University, and Founder of Olivia University, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has condoled with the Enugwu-Ukwu community in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State, over death of four young men who were killed in a disputed farmland. While condoling with Igwe Sir Ralph Ekpe, Igwe Enugwu-Ukwu, Sir Paul Chukwuma also cautioned against reprisal attacks.

In a statement, the spokesman for Sir Paul Chukwuma’s Campaign Council, Mr. James Eze, described the unfortunate incident as horrific and also called for peaceful resolutions of the dispute over the parcel of land in question. According to Chukwuma, “My heart goes out to ndi Enugwu-Ukwu for losing four young men in the prime of their youth. No excuse is good enough for taking human lives,” a part of the statement issued by Eze reads. Furthermore, Chukwuma who wondered at how Anambra got into the current circle of bloodletting, expressed worry at the level of violent crimes on the rise in the state. Describing the new trend of violence in Anambra as “troubled times,” he then called for reflection on the state of leadership which accordingly, he acknowledged is failing the people of the state.

Also, the Anambra State Police Command has assured of a thorough inquest into the killing of four young men in the disputed land at Isonye; a boundary land parcel bounded by Enugwu-Ukwu and Nawfia communities, both in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State. In a statement signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer- PPRO, CSP Tochi Ikenga, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, said the police are already working at unraveling the circumstances that led to the death of the deceased in the disputed land, assuring that the event cannot be swept under the carpet. “The police are already working with information obtained from the scene”, he said, while urging “members of the public to provide the police with credible and useful information that will lead to the apprehension of all persons involved in the barbaric act”, CSP Ikenga said.
