The Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in fulfillment of his promise to automate government processes has commissioned the Enugu State Geographic Information System, ENGIS.

Gov. Mbah speaking at the inauguration ceremony assures prospective investors of ease in obtaining land documents, eradication of multiple taxation and allocation on a piece of land which had been the order of the day in the state.

The Enugu State Geographic Information System, ENGIS, is a computer-based system that enables investors in land to start and complete applications for land title documents within 48 hours and even conduct information search on the land; ENGIS’s goal is to sanitize and modernize land administration and management in Enugu State.

The Enugu State Geographic Information System Service Bill was passed into law by the Enugu State House of Assembly and accented to by the state Governor in March 2024.

In his speech, Gov. Mbah said, “Today marks the end of the era of land grabbing, unauthorized construction, double allocations and revenue diversion.”

“During our campaign, we promised to invest hugely in the digital sector and ensure that Enugu State comes first in terms of Ease of Doing Business;

“Major indicators of the Ease of Doing Business- ease of obtaining title and construction permit are core indicators. ENGIS will also enable us to accomplish our economic growth target.”

“With ENGIS, one can start and complete the application for title within 48 hours. From the comfort of your home, you can apply for titles, conduct your searches, and get the results almost immediately.”

Commending the innovation and inauguration, the Coordinator of ENGIS, Dr. Cyril Ezeama, says the system will boost the revenue of the state and create an advanced geospatial center of excellence for land administration and data management.

“With this system, we will enable the transparent, accurate, and efficient registration of land titles, provide reliable geospatial information, and ensure sustainable geospatial management for Enugu State.”

“The project is not only designed to eliminate revenue leakages but is also projected to significantly enhance revenue generation, contributing an estimated N300bn annually to the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Enugu State,” Ezeama said.
