Governor Simi Fubara of Rivers State has appealed to the people of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State not to react to any provocation but to imbibe peace.

Fubara who was alluding to the political crisis in the state between him and his predecessor, former Governor Nyesom Wike, urged the people to remain peaceful, even though he knew some of them could be taken to court after the event.

Fubara stated this on Thursday during the inauguration of the newly constructed traditional ruler’s palace in Obio/Akpor LGA of the state.

He said, “Please don’t react to any issue no matter the level of provocation. I know that some of you can be taken to court after this event but follow peace. We are there for you. You can see our love for you in various forms. All we need is your support for the government.

“We’re going to upgrade the psychiatric hospital to a model hospital. We’re building a palace for His Royal Highness in Obio/Akpor because of the love I have for Obio/Akpor people. Continue to support our administration.

“Protect the palace, it is a legacy. It is the legacy of the kingdom. It belongs to everyone, not the king, so protect it.”

The inauguration ceremony was conducted by His Royal Majesty, Ediden Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, the Obong of Calabar.

In his remark, the Obong lauded Governor Fubara for his exceptional leadership, urging other governors to emulate him.

He said, “I want to commend the Governor for what he is doing. I urge successive administrations to pay attention and look to the direction of traditional rulers. Successive administrations should realise that governance is like a relay race.

He added, “In order not to sound political, as a father I must stand with the truth and I want to say that Simi Fubara remains the governor of Rivers State. I want to state that the mandate was freely and resoundingly given to him by the Rivers people. Don’t let them distract you. Shut out the noise and concentrate on working for Rivers people.” He added.
