The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday officially unveiled Éric Sékou Chelle as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles.
The unveiling ceremony, held at the Media Conference Room of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, followed Chelle’s appointment last Tuesday upon the recommendation of the NFF’s Technical and Development Committee.
At the ceremony, Chelle expressed his excitement and outlined his vision for the team.
“Coaching the Super Eagles of Nigeria is an amazing job; I do not take this appointment for granted. I am elated and will do my utmost best,” he declared.
“Football is about scoring goals, so I favour an attacking style,” Chelle emphasised. “I know the expectations of Nigerians and I will settle down and work diligently with my assistants towards the goal of qualifying the Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau reiterated his support for the new coach, stating, “I see in the new Head Coach the right spirit and the right attitude, and I have faith that he will take the Super Eagles to the next level. He sees the job of leading the Super Eagles as his dream job, and that is a huge motivation in itself.”
Gusau emphasised the importance of collective support, urging Nigerians to rally behind Chelle. “We will be there giving him the necessary support all the way,” he assured.
Chelle has signed a two-year contract with the NFF, with an option for an extension if he successfully guides the Super Eagles to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He will initially join the Super Eagles B team in Ikenne as they prepare for the upcoming 8th African Nations Championship, playing a supervisory role.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by key figures in Nigerian football, including the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Anthony Adeboye; the Chairman, NFF Technical and Development Committee, Sharif Inuwa; and the NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi.
