A special delegation of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations – NIPR, led by its National President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, has paid a courtesy call on Chief Uzu Okagbue and informed him of his selection for conferment of honourary fellowship, during its next Annual General Meeting. The delegation which included Prof. Okey Ikechukwu, Ahmadi Sajoh, Comrade M. H. Ibrahim, the National President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities – SSANU, and Major Gen. Chris Olukolade, among other prominent members, expressed confidence in Okagbue’s public service records and public engagements.
In a letter addressed to Uzu Okagbue which was endorsed by Dr. Neliaku, President and Council Chairman of NIPR, and Chief Uzoma Onyegbadue, Registrar and Secretary to Council, the NIPR revealed that the “Honourary Fellowship is the highest honour reserved and bestowed on individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of Public Relations profession and the development of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at large,” part of the letter reads. The letter also emphasized that Uzu Okagbue’s choice for the honourary fellowship of the NIPR is borne out of his value addition, balanced and compelling perspectives on national, state, and local issues. For instance, Uzu’s contributions to various topics on Anambra First, an A-list group of Anambra top professionals, leaders of thought, and industry, convened by Dr. Uche Nworah, remains one of the finest, among many others.
In a separate letter, the NIPR Council conveyed the approval of a waiver for all fees relating to the conferment of this honour to Uzu Okagbue. “The Council has approved that the payment be waived for you,” the letter signed by the Registrar, Uzoma Onyegbadue, reads in part.
Speaking, Uzu Okagbue thanked the NIPR president and the delegation for finding him worthy of such an honour. He also confessed that he did some research on the Council and was able to ascertain their impeccable credibility, which informed his choice to associate with them and accept the honourary fellowship. According to Okagbue, most of Nigeria’s problems can be resolved by deploying appropriate public relations tools. He said this points to the NIPR’s crucial essence in addressing Nigeria’s problems.
The formal conferment of the honour will take place in Akwa Ibom State during the NIPR’s Annual General Meeting in May 2025.
