Two thousand workers disengaged fromAbia State Local Government Service Commission during the administration of ex-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in 2019, have appealed to Governor Alex Otti to reconsider their plight and reinstate them.
The spokesperson of the disengaged workers, Chike Nna, who made the appeal in Umuahia on Wednesday said they were employed through the standard civil service procedure, having left their previous jobs to apply for the advertised positions.
He appealed to the present administration to revisit their case and consider reabsorbing them into the service, explained that the sacked workers were languishing in joblessness and hunger while some others were down with sickness occasioned by frustration.
“The embargo on employment was lifted in 2018/2019, which enabled the workers to go through rigorous processes, including examinations, screenings, medical tests and were eventually issued letters to start work.
“They said some persons got the job through the backdoor, we were asked to submit our credentials again, towards the end of 2022, we heard people were employed without the government officially lifting the embargo. We were dismissed without any reason or payment,” he said.
Nna, who said that the local government staff received salaries for 11 months while awaiting their appointment letters, regretted that the then State government suddenly announced plans to do a review on their employment.
