The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land allocated to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its national secretariat in Abuja.
A letter dated 13 March 2025 conveyed the revocation, citing the opposition party’s failure to pay ground rents for nearly 20 years, from 1 January 2006 to 1 January 2025.
The notice, signed by the Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, stated:
“The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has in the exercise of powers conferred on him under the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978, Cap. L5, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, revoked your rights, interests and privileges over Plot No. 243 within Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja.”
The letter further explained that despite repeated public notices since 2023, PDP failed to settle its outstanding dues, which is in contravention of “the provisions of Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.”
As of the time of filing this report, the PDP has yet to officially respond to the revocation.
