The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has sealed the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja over alleged non-payment of ground rent.
The action was carried out on Monday afternoon, just a day before the party’s scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The PDP’s headquarters, located in Wuse Zone 5, was among several properties targeted in a broader enforcement drive by the FCTA. This campaign aims to recover outstanding ground rents from property owners across the capital. In March, the FCTA revoked 4,794 land titles due to non-payment of ground rent, with some debts dating back over 40 years.
The FCTA’s enforcement actions have not been limited to the PDP. Other notable establishments, including the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and Access Bank, have also had their premises sealed over similar allegations of unpaid ground rent.
The NEC meeting, which is the highest decision-making body of the PDP, was expected to address various internal issues within the party. With the headquarters sealed, it remains unclear whether the meeting will proceed as planned or be relocated.
