Three communities in Kano have identified that regular gatherings at the Kano Zoological Garden contribute to increasing cases of street fights and drug abuse.
Residents of Sheka, Mai Dile, and Ja’oji expressed their concern in a formal complaint submitted to the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, at his palace in Kofar Kudu.
According to the residents, most of those involved in the violence are young people, many of them under the age of 22.
After receiving the complaint, His Royal Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Kano Emir, urged local government chairmen and traditional leaders to collaborate closely with security agencies to address the growing problem of violence and thuggery.
In recent weeks, youth clashes, leading to burglary and phone snatching, have led to the loss of lives.
The development has instilled fear in the communities due to the behavior of the youths.
