Crime & SecurityNewsNigeriaNIPSS Attack: Suspect Arrested At Treatment Facility

One of the suspects in connection with the recent attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area, has been arrested by troops deployed to Plateau State after the incident.
The suspect, identified as Paul Kolsen, was reportedly apprehended while receiving medical treatment for a gunshot wound that security operatives believe he sustained during the attack on the government policy institution when security forces repelled the assault.
His arrest is said to represent another major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation, which has already led to the apprehension of several other suspects in recent days.
Sources disclosed that Kolsen is suspected to be a member of a Berom militia group believed to have participated in the attempted assault on the NIPSS facility.
According to security sources cited by counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, personnel of Sector 6 carried out the arrest at Farm Center at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday after acting on credible intelligence regarding the suspect’s whereabouts.
Following his arrest, Kolsen was taken into custody for interrogation as investigators seek to establish the extent of his alleged involvement in the attack and determine whether he has operational links with other suspects still being pursued by security agencies.
The security operation was reportedly launched after intelligence indicated that an individual believed to have taken part in the attack was undergoing treatment for a gunshot injury.
The latest development follows the attempted attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies on July 2, when troops engaged suspected militia members in a fierce gun battle around the institution.
During the confrontation, security sources said one of the suspected attackers was killed, while several others escaped into nearby rocky terrain.
Troops subsequently launched coordinated follow-up operations, combining ground patrols with intelligence gathering to track down those who fled the scene.
Those operations have since resulted in multiple arrests as security agencies intensify efforts to dismantle the network believed to be responsible for the attack.
In a significant development during the July 2 operation, troops also recovered a military service rifle bearing registration number CO-3175.
Preliminary investigations reportedly traced the weapon to a soldier who was killed during an earlier attack on military personnel at the Federal College of Land Resources Technology, Vom, on April 11.
The recovery of the rifle has widened the scope of the investigation, with security authorities now examining possible connections between the attack on NIPSS and previous assaults on military personnel and security facilities within the Kuru-Vom axis of Plateau State.
Investigators are particularly focused on determining how the service weapon allegedly moved from the scene of the April attack into the possession of individuals suspected of participating in the attempted attack on NIPSS.
