The Jigawa State Hisbah Board has arrested eight persons over alleged homosexual acts in Kazaure Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were arrested following a complaint lodged by a 22-year-old resident of Kanti, Kazaure town.
The Public Relations Officer of the Hisbah Board, Dauda Hadejia, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Dutse, the state capital, on Saturday.
Hadejia said the complainant alleged that nine individuals had engaged in homosexual acts with him on different occasions.
He added that the complainant claimed he subsequently contracted HIV, which he attributed to the alleged acts.
According to the PRO, the complainant approached the Hisbah Board seeking justice over what he described as deception and actions that had negatively affected his life.
Hadejia said the complaint prompted Hisbah operatives to commence an investigation and search for the nine individuals named by the complainant.
“Our men swung into action after receiving the complaint and so far eight suspects have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspect,” Hadejia said.
He said the eight suspects, during preliminary investigations, reportedly admitted to engaging in the alleged acts with the complainant.
Hadejia added that the Hisbah Board had gathered relevant information and evidence which would be presented before the court.
He said the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.
The PRO quoted the Deputy Commander-General of the Jigawa State Hisbah Board, Dr Hussain Baban, as urging parents to pay closer attention to the upbringing of their children and the people with whom they associate.
“Dr. Baban urged parents to pay greater attention to the upbringing of their children and monitor the people they associate with,” Hadejia said.
Baban also called on members of the public to fear God and remain conscious of the consequences of their actions.
The Hisbah Board expressed appreciation to the Jigawa State Government for its support and cooperation in carrying out its responsibilities.
