Bachama Communities in Adamawa state have concluded “Folshe”, the final rites of the passage of Hama Bachama Honest Irmiya Stephen, Kwirei-Mana, Kpafrato II Gbulumbomo.
The rites were observed at Shafe in Lamurde, Adamawa State with Chief Kingmaker Nzopwato leads the group.
Speaking, Chief Timawus Mathias Nzobyalata Hamma Bachama and spokesman of the Bachama palace said it was observed according to Bachama rites.
The kingmakers are referred to as the Kabe, born into the clan, not appointed ever, and sworn to a credible process of transition of the Kings, unhindered.
“They select the King, they never become the King. They alone enter the Venti Veying, the mausoleum of all the past 28 Kings of the Bachama Kingdom.
“Today Mark’s the end of the mourning period and kickstarts the contest for a successor.
“The Hero’s Last Bugle – chanted by the Kabe (Kingmakers) youth, all bare-chested as they bear the prostrate effigy of the late monarch. The effigy is a trunk dressed up in royal garments.
“Gbinda yero kakei ba ba yo hi ni’e di zo!
Hwuna weyo ka wönö ba ba yo Hi ni’e di zo!”
“The Hero has perished in the wild, perpetually? And here we go!
Who did you venture with to the wild, perpetually? – And here we go!
“The procession has disappeared into the distance while all guests wait in silence, broken by the chant of geese and ravens and the languid monotony of the base drum (huboduwe). They return shortly in celebration.” Nzobyalata Bachama noted.
For now, the issue of which royal clan should produce Stephen’s successor will be a straight fight between the six dominant royal clans in the Bachama chiefdom.
The six royal clans to vie for the stool of the Hama Bachama are Kowo, Magbularon, Impang, Waduku, Nomupo, and Nokodomun.
Prominent contenders of the exalted throne include Mr Wuni Tela Mbi (retired Custom Officer) and Mr Daniel Shaga Ismail( retired NDLEA officer).
