Sixteen-year-old Aishat who got pregnant and gave birth to a child after she was gang-raped by four men at a bus park in Surulere, Lagos and later tested positive to COVID-19, will receive support from the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development and the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA).

Aishat was abandoned in Lagos by a woman who brought her from Saki in Oyo State, The West African Pilot reported.

The Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Segun Dawodu, commended welfare workers who took the teenager to the hospital and the medical staff who saved the mother and the child.

Mr. Dawodu promised that the mother and child would be cared for and sheltered. He stressed that parents should desist from handing their children to strangers who take them to cities and use them as housemaids or for other unscrupulous purposes.
