BusinessNewsNigeriaOil & GasNNPC Set to Resume Oil Exploration In North East Borno

As peace gradually returns to the Lake Chad Basin area, Nigeria, National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC) is set to resume oil exploration in the region.

The State Minister for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Silver, the Group Managing Director, (GMD) Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC), Mr. Kyari Mele,the General Manager Oil exploration, Alh. Abdullah Bomsai and Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai, among other principal officers of both the NNPC and the Army, were in Maiduguri on a Chad Basin Oil expiration meeting to discuss how to commence the exploration in the region.

The meeting which was held behind a the closed-door meeting at the headquarters of the Theater Command Operation Lafiya Dole, at the Maimalari cantonment, Maiduguri lasted about an hour.

Briefing newsmen shortly after the closed-door meeting the minister of Petroleum Resources Chief Timipre Silver said “we’re here to discuss the stakeholders, we want to commence drilling and oil exploration in the Chad Basin area.. we believe there is relative peace nowhere. We will commence exploration soon.”

 “The military has been doing a good job in the Northeast there is relative peace Northeast, that is why we want to commence expiration soon”, Silver added. 

It could be recalled that the oil exploration was suspended in the Chad Basin due to the activities of Boko Haram insurgency.
