Crime & SecurityNewsNigeriaIGP Moves to Curb Car Theft, Launches Portal for Nigerians to Report Stolen Vehicles

To curb car theft, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has launched a digital platform for Nigerians to report cases of stolen and yet-to-be-recovered vehicles.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, commissioned the online platform, Central Motor Registry (CMR) Command Centre on Wednesday, 7 December.

CSP Adejobi said the CMR Command Centre is domiciled at the Department of Information and Communication Technology, Force Headquarters in Abuja.

He explained that the development was in line with the IGP’s quest to ensure a digital environment for policing the country for robust and more proactive measures in crime prevention, investigation, and prosecution.

The newly digitalised CMR Command Centre will make it possible for members of the public to report stolen and yet-to-be-recovered vehicles from as far back as 1 January 2018 for the possible recovery of the vehicle, a press release by the NPF said.

Additionally, the platform will also process motor vehicle information to support police operations and efforts toward enhancing national security.

The IGP admonished Nigerians and other residents in the country to take advantage of the platform to upload their vehicle information as a security step for preventing it from being stolen and re-registered.
