The Nigerian Police Force, NPF, has declared Andrew Wynne, a British national, and Lucky Ehis Obinyan, a Nigerian, wanted for alleged involvement in a plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu.

The NPF announced this development during a press briefing on Monday. The police revealed that Wynne, also known as Drew Povey, is accused of terrorism financing, treasonable felony, cybercrime, subversion, and criminal conspiracy.

According to Muyiwa Adejobi, the NPF spokesperson, Wynne had established the Iva Valley Bookshop at the Nigeria Labour Congress headquarters in Abuja and founded the STARS of Nations Schools as a cover for his alleged subversive activities.

Adejobi claimed that Wynne had built a ‘network of sleeper cells’ to destabilise the government and had provided substantial financial support to his Nigerian associates to incite violence.

“Documentary evidence and confessions revealed that Andrew Wynne issued directives, monitored progress, and provided finance and operational guidance to achieve unconstitutional regime change in Nigeria,” the Force PRO added.

“He mobilised and deployed several billions of naira to his Nigerian collaborators, urging them to mobilise the public to violently storm police facilities and military barracks, anticipating a bloodbath that would instigate international condemnation of the Nigerian government. These acts are in clear violation of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2011 and other relevant laws.”

In a Special Police Gazette Bulletin, the NPF has offered a reward of N10,000,000 for information leading to the arrest of each of the suspects.

Adejobi revealed that Wynne has since fled the country and is now under global surveillance.

“Since the commencement of investigations, Andrew Wynne has fled the country. He and one of his local coordinators, Lucky Ehis Obinyan, have accordingly been declared wanted and global hunting for them has commenced in connection with this investigation,” he said.

In response to the allegations, Wynne, in a statement issued from the letterhead of his bookshop, denounced the charges, asserting that the government’s repression against peaceful protests has been the real issue.

He stated, “Protest is not treason – release all the detainees! The mass protests over #EndBadGovernance and #EndHunger frightened the government. But rather than addressing the people’s demands, the government turned to repression.”
