The Nigerian Army has announced that the immediate past Commander of 3 Brigade, Kano, Brig.-Gen. M.A. Sadiq, is currently undergoing a military investigation into administrative discrepancies.
The investigation is being conducted by the Army’s internal disciplinary mechanisms.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, stated that the former brigade commander was relieved of his command to facilitate a thorough investigation.
“The Nigerian Army being a self-regulatory institution founded on the bedrock of discipline, justice, and accountability, has zero tolerance for indiscipline and will therefore not condone any form of misconduct or illicit actions and inactions that could undermine the threshold of its values and principles,” Nwachukwu said.
The Army has assured both internal and external stakeholders that the investigation will be conducted impartially and transparently, in accordance with established procedures.
While the specific nature of the administrative discrepancies has not been disclosed, reports suggest that they may involve allegations of financial impropriety and misuse of military resources.
There are also allegations that Sadiq diverted rice palliatives intended for soldiers and sold military equipment to scrap dealers.
Sadiq has been replaced as Commander of 3 Brigade and is currently detained in a military police guardroom in Abuja. He is facing interrogation by the special investigation branch of military police and could face charges at a court-martial.
