In its effort to ensure quicker and more accessible means of settling disputes in Zamfara state, the state House of Assembly has announced plans to establish an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre.

Bilyaminu Ismaíl, Speaker of the House Zamfara said a Bill for the establishment of the ADR Centre has already been received by the Assembly and will be given priority for passage.

Ismaíl, disclosed this after an interactive session with the management of the Kaduna State Multi-Door Courthouse, attended by lawmakers and civil society representatives from both Kaduna and Zamfara States.

“The proposed ADR Centre will handle disputes that do not necessarily require conventional court processes, instead relying on mediation, counselling, negotiation, and other flexible methods.

“This approach will ease the burden on regular courts while making justice more accessible to citizens.

“The visit aimed to draw from Kaduna’s decade-long experience in running a Multi-Door Courthouse, with a view to replicating and adapting the model for Zamfara,: he said.

The Speaker expressed gratitude to Kaduna State lawmakers and the Courthouse management for their support, noting that the lessons learned will guide Zamfara in shaping a centre that meets the needs of its people.

Director of the Kaduna State Multi-Door Courthouse, Dorcas Daniel who welcomed the Zamfara delegation, described the visit as timely and encouraged them to establish the centre without delay to enhance access to justice, particularly for vulnerable groups.
