A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday granted bail to former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the sum of ₦100 million with one surety in like amount.

Delivering the ruling, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik imposed strict conditions, directing that the surety must reside in either Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja and deposit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property with the court.

The court further held that the surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 and provide proof of salary payments for at least three months, to be verified by a letter from the surety’s bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction.

Other conditions include submission of an affidavit of means, execution of a bail bond, and provision of a recent passport photograph, alongside a verification letter from the surety’s department and a tax clearance certificate covering the last six months.

Justice Abdulmalik also ordered El-Rufai to surrender all valid international passports.

In addition, the court directed the former governor to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) on the last Friday of each month by 10:00 a.m. to sign an attendance register, pending the determination of the case.

The judge warned that any breach of the bail conditions would result in automatic revocation.

The court also ordered the submission of a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council as part of the bail requirements.
