Due to insecurity that bedeviled some parts of the country, Taraba State governor, Agbu Kefas, has taken another measure by suspending all forms of mining activities across the state with immediate effect.
The suspension of mining activities was issued by the Secretary to the Taraba State Government, Chief Gebon Timothy Kataps, on 19 June 2026, on behalf of Governor Agbu Kefas.
“This decision is based on credible security reports indicating threats capable of undermining the current peace being enjoyed by all citizens and residents of the State.
“Consequently, the government will constitute a new task force to ensure safety and security for all responsible mining operators after all security threats have been cleared,” the statement said.

The government also directed all Local Government Councils and traditional rulers to ensure “strict compliance with the suspension order” while it plans to meet with artisanal miners next week.
“Any violation(s) must be reported immediately to the nearest security establishment. The government will view any breach of this directive as a serious offense.
“The State government has concluded plans to meet with all artisanal miners next week to update them on security measures and vigilance requirements.
“The government remains committed to protecting lives and property while ensuring that mining activities resume only under a secure and regulated environment,” the statement reads.
The statement urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious activities, explained that a new task force would be constituted to ensure the safety of all legal mining operators in the State.
