Governor Seyi Makinde has approved a 16-hour curfew across 10 local government areas of Oyo State, citing security concerns in communities bordering the Old Oyo National Park.

The directive, which takes effect from Wednesday, 24 June 2026, was announced in a memo issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Musibau Babatunde.

The announcement was conveyed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, in a statement dated 23 June 2026.

According to the statement, the curfew will run daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. and will remain in force for an initial period of 48 hours.

The affected local government areas are Oriire, Oorelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.

Although the government did not provide detailed reasons for the restriction, it noted that the measure targets areas adjoining the Old Oyo National Park, a region that has recently drawn heightened security attention.

Residents in the affected areas are expected to comply fully with the directive, as security agencies are likely to intensify patrols to enforce the curfew.

The development comes amid growing concerns over security in parts of Oyo State, particularly in rural communities, where incidents of violent crime have periodically been reported.

Recently, 39 schoolchildren and seven teachers were abducted in the State on 15 May.
