The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has advocated for active involvement of communities, traditional institutions, religious leaders, the private sector and citizens towards tackling terrorism and insecurity for lasting peace in the country.
Nentawe, who spoke on Friday in Abuja at the National Citizens’ Stakeholders’ Engagement on Countering Terrorism and Insecurity, said Nigeria’s security challenges require collective responsibility that goes beyond the efforts of the government and security agencies.
“To strengthening the country’s security architecture demands collaboration across all sectors of society. National cohesion and responsible citizenship are critical to defeating insecurity and creating an environment for sustainable development.
“It requires a united national effort in which government, communities, traditional and religious institutions, the private sector and citizens all play their part.
“Through a Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society approach, we can strengthen our security architecture, deepen national cohesion, promote responsible citizenship and create the conditions for sustainable development,” he said.
Nentawe described the stakeholders’ engagement as a timely platform for honest dialogue, saying, “The country’s priority should be building a nation where peace, justice, unity and prosperity become shared aspirations.”
The APC National Chairman also pledged the party’s support for initiatives aimed at improving national security and promoting stability across the country.
On his part, the guest speaker and Royal Father of the Day, Muhammadu Sanusi II, said defeating terrorism and other forms of insecurity requires sustained cooperation between government, communities, religious leaders and citizens.
Sanusi, who expressed optimism that the deliberations would yield practical recommendations to address the country’s security challenges, urged Nigerians to place greater value on human life.
The forum, organized by Project 774 Network, brought together political leaders, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders who examined strategies for strengthening Nigeria’s response to terrorism and insecurity.
