The Lagos State Police Command has identified and arrested Inspector Osumah Frank, the officer seen in a viral video making political and ethnic remarks about Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi and the Igbo people.
The command said disciplinary proceedings had commenced against Frank in line with the established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, 25 September 2026.
In the video circulating on social media, Frank, who was dressed in police uniform and travelling in a public transport vehicle, was heard discussing Obi’s 2027 presidential ambition and the possibility of an Igbo person becoming President of Nigeria.
He was also heard making remarks about President Bola Tinubu and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, while suggesting that police officers could be financially induced to undermine a candidate’s political prospects.
Some of his comments are: “Ibo can never become president”, “Small boy who does not want to respect elder”, “Go and sell you Okrika”, “Even if he wins, we’ll take the money, deal with him, and he won’t enter that place”, “he’ll waste all his money and strength”, “It’s not yet his turn, until when he’s old, like 80 or 90-years-old”, and “Atiku versus Tinubu, take Obi out of this matter”, “Who will give Ibo man or woman chance to become president of this country?”
The errant officer, who also alleged that Mr Obi is involved in rituals and that he will turn Abuja into a hotbed for fraud, also stated that, “Obi is too small to stand where Atiku and Tinubu are talking”, “This time around, they’ll put him in fifth position”, “Obi is a criminal, Ibo smoker, Yahoo”, “It’s better he leaves these elderly men to be controlling us, if Atiku can defeat Tinubu, it’s accepted.”
The command described the remarks as “careless, inappropriate and uncultured” and stressed that they were made by Frank in his personal capacity.
“The Command has commenced appropriate disciplinary action against the officer in line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement said.
“It also wishes to make it clear that the statements made by the officer were made in his personal capacity and do not represent the position, views or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force,” it added.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reiterated that police personnel were required to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public.
“All personnel are expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times,” Fatai said.
He also stressed the responsibility that comes with wearing the police uniform, saying officers must protect the dignity and integrity of the Force.
“The Command will not condone any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the Police,” he said.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and “policing with humility and integrity”.
It did not disclose the specific disciplinary measures being taken against Frank or the outcome of the proceedings.
