More than five years after he left office, Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan GCFR, GCON might technically still be the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, based on the standards set by the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It may be recalled that Dr. Jonathan lost the 2015 presidential election to former military ruler and now the incumbent,  Muhammadu Buhari.

However, on the website of Embassy of The Federal Republic of Nigeria, China, Dr. Jonathan’s official image as president took the executive spot, but that might not be all the blunders.  Also, Hon. Aminu Bashir Wali who left Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2015 is still officially listed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Hon Wali (Inset) was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration and served from 2014 to 2015. Nigeria’s current Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Geoffrey Jideofor Kwusike Onyeama was not listed. Hon Onyeama was appointed Foreign Affairs Minister  in November 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Nigeria, the largest in Africa and China, the largest in Asia recently begun to establish a significant relationship relevant to specific interests.  In 2016 for instance, President Buhari visited China and claimed his trip would facilitate investments valued at more than $6 billion. But the activities of the Embassy might contract Nigeria’s seriousness in tapping China’s economic potentials.  For instance, the ravages of Coronavirus reported in more than 20 countries around the world has not yet been addressed by the Nigeria Embassy in  China.

As at press time, West African Pilot News has been unable to contact any of the Embassy staff. While unconfirmed figures are sporadically reported in the social media, neither the Nigerian Embassy in China, nor Minister of Foreign Affairs has officially announced the state of Nigerian citizens in China.
