The Federal Ministry of Health has confirmed ten new cases of COVID-19 in Abuja and Lagos.

According to a statement signed by the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, there are three new cases in the Federal Capital Territory and seven new cases in Lagos State, bringing the total number of cases to 22. Two cases have been discharged.

A breakdown of the cases of infected persons across the country shows that Lagos has 16 cases, FCT has three, Ekiti has one case and Ogun has 2.

“All ten new cases are Nigerian nationals; 9 (nine) of them have travel history to  Canada, France, Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom. They returned to the country in the past 1 (one) week; 10th case is a close contact of a previously confirmed case,” the statement read.

The Minister said the three patients in the FCT were getting treatment at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH), Gwagwalada while the seven patients in Lagos were being treated at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.

“All 10 (ten) new cases have mild to moderate symptoms and are currently receiving treatment,” the Minister stated.

The Minister said efforts were on to trace all persons who had had contact with the new cases and that screening measures were on at the air, land and sea point of entry into the country.

“The Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) working closely with states and the Presidential Task Force on the Control of Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to review response activities and institute measures to protect the health of Nigerians,” he said.
