A 42-year-old female Covid-19 patient, Hauwa Mohammed of Shehuri Area of Maiduguri alleged to be on the run has reported to the hospital and demanded an apology.
The woman and a 22-year-old man, Abbas Hassan, were on Sunday said to be on the run by the Borno High Powered Committee on Convid-19.
While the man was traced in Gwange Area of Maiduguri in a critical condition and taken to Isolation Centre, the woman later took herself to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) where she demanded an apology.
She pointed out that unlike the man who the committee said switched off his phone when he was contacted and informed that he tested positive, she was not contacted by anyone regarding her test and only heard her name in the media that she was on the run.
Borno Commissioner of Information who is also a member of the state Covid-19 team, Alhaji Babakura Abba-Jato said the woman received an apology from laboratory officials at the UMTH and is now at the isolation Centre.
“The apology became necessary after Hauwa protested that she did not receive communication from the COVID-19 lab at UMTH or officials of the state response team asking her to come for hospital isolation even though she had been on self-isolation since her sample was taken for the test due to exposure of confirmed case days back.”
“The patient brought herself in a very responsible and medically professional manner, which was highly commendable,” Abba-Jato said.
