The All Progressives Congress (APC), in Adamawa State, has commended the role being played by journalists and other stakeholders in containing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

The state secretary of the party in the state Mr. Wafarniyi Theman while fielding questions from newsmen said despite the high-level risk they are subjected to, journalists in the state have continued to show unparalleled patriotism in their bid to enlighten and educate the people about the disease.

He was emphatic that with the journalists for being the first casualty of the disease in the state after the first index case turn out to be a journalist noting that such is the supreme price the journalists and health workers have to pay for being in the front line of the war against the dreaded virus.

“We pray that God Almighty heals one of you who is afflicted by the disease. We shall not discriminate or stigmatize any of you on account of the disease,” The man said.

He noted that as a responsible party, the APC will join hands with both the federal government and state government to fight the dreaded disease noting that the party will not resort to making unfounded statements to score political points.

‘’ Journalists need to be commended for covering happenings in the state objectively,’’ adding that the party will continue to build synergy with them in order to proffer solution to the myriads of challenges facing the state.

” Just like we are extending solidarity to the federal government in the fight against COVID-19, we are also supportive of the state government to ensure that all hands are on deck to contain the disease,” he added.

The party urged all the residents to see the fight against COVID-19 as their own urging them to respect government and NCDC protocols in containing the virus adding that the party has drastically reduced its activities in deference to these protocols.

He urged the state government to in the spirit of fair play carry every citizen of the state in the distribution of its palliatives without recourse to political and other parochial considerations so as not to politicise the COVID-19 disease.

The man, however, frowned that the APC was yet to get any form of palliative noting that as a legitimate group, they should not be discriminated against on the altar of their partisanship.
