Troops of Operations Thunder Strike and Whirl Punch in conjunction with the Air Component of Operation Gama Aiki have killed 17 bandits in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
This was disclosed on Monday in Abuja by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche.
Enenche also disclosed that several other bandits escape with gunshots wounds in the joint operation that was conducted on May 7 at the hideout of suspected bandits around Mashigi Galbi, Damba Community, and Kabarasha villages in Gwagwada District.
He added that the operation was a continued effort of the armed forces of Nigeria to wipe out bandits in Kaduna state, as well as other criminal elements.
He added that three empty buildings and a Church building were partially damaged at Kabarasha village in the course of pursuing the bandits. He noted that there was no civilian casualty.
According to him, the military regretted such an incident, and a panel had been set up to investigate the occurrence in liaison with the State Government.
Enenche said that the buildings had been identified to compensate the owners. He also said normalcy had been restored in the areas.
He noted that a few people who initially fled the area because of reprisal attacks from the bandits have all returned to the community
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Enenche said “The High Command of the Armed Forces of Nigeria hereby reassure the general public that it will continue to work assiduously to restore peace and security in the North West.
“It equally thanks to the general public for their support and cooperation, while encouraging them to continue to provide credible information that will facilitate the operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” he said.
