One of the most wanted suspects of the Rwanda Genocide, Félicien Kabuga, had been arrested near Paris. This was announced by the French Justice Ministry on Saturday.

According to the BBC, the gendarmes in Asnières-Sur-Seine had detained Mr. Kabuga, who was reported to have been living under a false identity in the area.

The 84-year old Kabuga had been charged for genocide and crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.

He was alleged to have been the main financier of the ethnic Hutu extremists who slaughtered 800,000 people in the 1994 Rwanda genocide.

The extremists were reported to be targeting members of the minority Tutsi community, as well as their political opponents.

The United State had offered a reward of $5 million for information leading to the arrest of Mr. Kabuga.

The Rwandan genocide was a mass slaughter of the Tutsi, Twa and the moderation of Hutu in Rwanda. The Genocide took place between April 7 and July 15, 1994 during the Rwandan Civil War.
