Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has announced the suspension of the traditional homage during the upcoming Eid-el-fitr sallah celebration over the COVID-19 threat in the state.

A statement signed by the chief of staff to governor Fintiri, Prof. Maxwell Gidado said the suspension became imperative as a way of curbing the spread of the novel COVID-19 disease in the state.

The statement entitled: ” Notification of suspension of Sallah homage on the governor ” was addressed to the deputy governor, SSG, HoS, all commissioners, Adamawa state house of assembly, local governments, heads of boards and parastatals and Adamawa State council of traditional rulers.

It stated: ” I’m directed to intimate you that this year’s Eid-el-fitr/Sallah homage on his excellency, the executive governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri would not hold as usual and hence is suspended.

“This is due to the dreaded COVID-19 scourge. The governor wishes you all happy Eid-el-fitr celebration.”

In the meantime, the state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adeyanju, has assured of the state adequate security during and after the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Adeyanju gave the assurance in a press statement issued by the state police spokesman, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje.

The commissioner, who congratulated the Muslim Community as they celebrate Sallah to mark the successful end of Ramadan, urged them to use the experience to reinforce their belief.

“The Commissioner of Police, OLUGBENGA ADEYANJU fdc, has congratulated Muslim Ummah in the state as they celebrate this year’s Eid el-Fitr. The CP notes that the successful conclusion of the Ramadan, a period of self-denial geared towards attaining wholesomeness, reinforces his belief that with the citizens’ collective perseverance and voluntary compliance with the prevention regulations emplaced by Governments at all levels.

“The CP has assured the state of adequate security during and after the Eid el-Fitr celebrations, noting that proactive and robust anti-crime measures, including the deployments of Surveillance and intelligence assets of the Force, are already in place to prevent any untoward incidents in the State.

“The command, however, reminds the citizens that the COVID-19 prevention regulation orders including the inter-state movement restriction orders, national curfew, and restriction orders by Governments in some areas of the state are still in force.

“It, therefore, enjoins the citizens to observe the Eid celebrations bearing in mind the unusual times occasioned by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic as the Force will leave no stone unturned towards the due enforcement of the orders,” Nguroje said.
