CoronavirusNewsCOVID-19: ICRC Donates PPEs to Adamawa Hospitals

In a bid to assist in containing the spread of the novel COVID-19 pandemic in Adamawa State, the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC), has donated Personal Protective Equipment to Malkohi Primary Health Center and Yola Specialist Hospital.

Items donated in the two facilities include; 200 pcs plastic aprons, 180 pcs protection gowns, 900 pcs surgical caps, 1800 pcs surgical face mask, 300 pcs single-use face mask, 3000 pcs examination gloves and 600 pcs Biohazard bags.

In his remarks, head of Sub-Delegation in Adamawa State, Ahmed Awadalla said ICRC has been given robust contributions to the health sector in the areas of drug provision in Adamawa State since 2015.

He noted that following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state, the ICRC deemed it necessary to make available PPEs to safeguard the lives of front line health caregivers in the state.

At the specialist hospital, Awadalla told the medical director that, ICRC has been helping in addressing emergency health challenges in the state.

He urged the management to ensure equitable distribution of the equipment to the staff of the hospital so that the overall intention of safeguarding their health can be attained.

Responding on behalf of the state commissioner of health, Professor Abdullahi Isa, the medical director of Yola specialist hospital, Dr. Dauda Wadinga thanked ICRC for their selfless and continuous support to the state.

He maintained that the equipment will be put to optimum use for the protection of front line health workers.

At the Malkohi PHC, Awadalla maintained the commitment of ICRC to continue with the monthly drug intervention it has been rendering for years to the facility.

He also expressed the determination of the organization to ensure that front line health workers are assisted with PPEs.

Thanking the ICRC, the facility manager of the hospital, Salamatu Kawu said the items couldn’t have come at a better time.

She thanked the ICRC for the monthly supply of drugs as well as the renewed intervention to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
