Although Dbanj’s accuser, Ms Seyitan Babatayo, has said she was taking few days off for counselling and therapy, her statement which was released and circulated on social media continues to generate diverse reactions.

In the statement, Ms Seyitan explained in detail what happened to her from the day she was allegedly raped by Dbanj and her ordeal after she publicly accused the popular musician. She said it was “necessary to clarify for records due to the distortion of facts in the media”.

On June 3, 2020, Following a post on social media by Dbanj condemning rape, Ms Seyitan publicly accused Dbanj of raping her after he entered her hotel room on December 30, 2018, at midnight.

After visiting the police station on June 6 to make a formal report but was not attended to, two weeks later, Ms Seyitan said she was arrested by four policemen without a warrant and detained overnight at IGP-IRT office at Harold Shodipo, Ikeja. She added that nobody, including her lawyer and her mother could reach her while in detention.

“I was released from custody after being made to sign a gag order by the Police and Dbanj’s team, and could only post on social media what had been approved by Dbanj’s team. I spent the night in a location of Dbanj’s team’s choosing, which was not made known to the public,” she stated.

Ms Seyitan alleged that she was pressured and intimidated in person by Dbanj and his team to retract all statements and to announce that her claim was a publicity stunt.

“Dbanj through his team has continued to harass me with increscent (sic) calls and boasting that he (Dbanj) can buy off anyone within the justice system in Lagos.”

Ms Seyitan requested that the Attorney General of Lagos took over the case, “I have confidence that his office will not be influenced by Dbanj’s many friends.”

She stated that the former Attorney General of Ogun State, Mrs Akeredolu (SAN) would provide her legal support.

“My stance from the beginning was never for financial gain. I was violated by Dbanj, that unwarranted and violent experience has never left me, it has stayed with me for a very long time, I demanded an apology then, and still demand it now!” Ms Seyitan said.

Dbanj, in a tweet, said “Innocent until proven guilty…., STOP SOCIAL MEDIA TRIAL. #SAY NOT TO RAPE AND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION.”

However, the journey to getting justice for the alleged crime appears to be a long and arduous one for Ms Seyitan, as Dbanj has filed a law suit demanding N100 million. The WAP news gathered that Dbanj has hired renowned lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome.

Meanwhile, Ms Seyitan’s statement has generated diverse reactions on and off social media. While some maintained that she accused Dbanj falsely, others say the statement proved Dbanj committed the crime.

“I don’t know how Seyitan’s legal team is going to prove an almost 2-year old rape in court especially in Nigeria. I hope they can. But we got that nigga on kidnap, intimidation, witness tampering, etcetera. Throw that at him and get him the f**k out of here… The officers who arrested Seyitan can be made to testify. Add bribing a public officer to those charges,” Big Daddy Gersh @_gershom

“They may not be able to prove their case but in the end Dbanj will not be worth what he is today. His life will never remain the same,” @iam_DonRep

“Exactly. They should just forget the rape case because there is no proof. It’s word of mouth; Seyitan’s word against Dbanj’s words. They should just charge him with all what you mentioned above,” Obinna Joseph @Chiefobi_
