Investigators and witnesses have revealed more details about how a victim identified as Fahim Saleh, co-founder and CEO of Gokada, a Lagos-based motorcycle hailing technology startup company, was discovered brutally murdered in his condominium on Manhattan’s Lower East Side in New York on Tuesday.
Mr Saleh’s sister found his body dismembered with a chain saw when she decided to go check on him after she did not hear from him for a whole day, according to the New York Times.
The police said they found Mr Saleh’s butchered torso, head, limbs, several plastic bags and an electric saw which was still plugged to the electric power outlet.
Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that the murderer planned to clean the crime scene in order to erase evidence but may have left in a hurry through another exit when the victim’s sister arrived at 3:30 pm, New York time.
The New York Times reported that feeds from the surveillance camera in the building showed Mr Saleh in an elevator with a person in black suit and black mask. When Mr Saleh exited the elevator to go into his apartment, the masked person followed Mr Saleh from behind. A struggle then started between the two. The victim’s sister was seen arriving the scene a short time later.
Saleh, 33, lived in the apartment with a small dog, which was found alive in the apartment. He frequently travelled to Nigeria for business, neighbours said.
In a statement, Gokada described the death of Mr Saleh as tragic and sudden and “we are completely heartbroken by the sad news… Fahim’s vision and belief in us will always be with us, a reminder that we can achieve whatever we set our minds to.”
The West African Pilot News reports that Saleh Farhim was the founder of Gokada, a bike hailing technology firm that operates in Lagos, Nigeria. In February 2020, motorcycles were banned from commuting passengers on several highways in Lagos. The Lagos State Government had said motorcycles were the biggest cause of accidents which had led to loss of lives and permanent injuries.
