The railway station in Agbor, Delta State has been named after former President, Goodluck Jonathan. The new railway station will now be named Goodluck Jonathan State and Complex to honor the immediate past President of Nigeria.
The naming of the rail station came after the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi stated in Agbor during a test run ride of the Warri-Itakpe rail track.
The Warri-Itakpe rail is a 276km operational hub. Other stations on the route are Eganiy; Adobe; Itogbo; Agenebode; Uromi; Egehen; Igbanke; Agbor; Abraka; Okpara and Ujewu.
The Warri-Itakpe project was first commenced in 1987 during the administration of General Ibrahim Babangida. It was used to carry steel materials from Delta Steel Company, Aladja but was abandoned after part of it was completed.
Federal Government under President Olusegun Obasanjo review the project in 1999 with the view of delivering the project in 2013 but the project was later abandoned by Obasanjo administration.
However, Buhari administration review the project again and promised to complete it in 2018. The railway line has been under testing since 2018.
The next phase of the project is expected to extend from Itakpe to Abuja.
