Crime & SecurityNewsBREAKING: Boko Haram: Multiple Explosions Rocks Maiduguri

Multiple explosions were on Thursday evening heard in Nigeria’s northeast city of Maiduguri, Borno state capital as residents of the city were busy preparing for the Eid-El-Kabir Muslim celebrations.

Residents say that the explosions were the result of rocket-propelled grenades fired by suspected Boko Haram fighters from the outskirts of the city which dropped in Gwange 2 primary and customs area within the metropolis.

The number of casualties remained sketchy, however, witnesses recount that security operatives were seen evacuating about five people to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, located close to the scene of both explosions.

Security personnel have since cordoned off the area.

Thursday’s attack comes a day after the Governor of the state, Professor Babagana Zulum was caught up in a suspected ISWAP attack during his visit to Baga town.

Video footage showed Governor Zulum visibly clearly unhappy about the security situation in the area.

In February, insurgents fired rocket-propelled grenades that injured occupants of a house along Damboa road in Maiduguri.

On February 23, 2019, ISWAP fired multiple Grad rockets into Maiduguri.
