The family of Richard Gbadebo, a 300-level University of Ibadan student who died at the Henkel Industries Ltd, makers of WAW detergent, located at Oluyole Industrial Estate, Ibadan, Oyo State, has been assured by the Ogun State government that an investigation of the incident had begun and that they would be compensated.

Gbadebo, 21, was an on night shift on July 28 when he reportedly slipped and fell into a machine which then crushed him. No one noticed until blood began dripping from the machine, witnesses said.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in Oyo State, Dr Bashir Olanrewaju, during a condolence visit to the family, said that sanctions would be imposed when investigations were complete.

“We are here to condole the parents of the deceased and to inform the family that measures are being taken by the government to ascertain the cause of Richard’s death.

“The administration of Engr. Seyi Makinde will ensure that justice is served so as to prevent the recurrence of an event like this in the future. So the government will get to the roots of this gruesome incident and give due compensation to the family of the deceased,” Taiwo Adisa, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor stated quoting Dr. Olanrewaju.

Late Gbadebo’s father, Mr. Shola Gbadebo, demanded that a CCTV footage of the scene of the incident be released in order to be sure there was no foul play.

“What I want to say is, the issue of compensation does not arise now. My son could become Governor or President in future if he is alive. So I don’t care about what they will offer me.

“My appeal is that the government should assist me to pressurize he company to show its CCTV footage so that the whole world will see how my son died,” Mr Gbadebo said.
